FUTA School Fees (2025/2026) Academic Session

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has introduced a revised fee structure for the 2023/2024 academic session. This update follows a wave of student protests that resulted in the indefinite suspension of academic activities.

What Prompted the Revision?

On January 15th, FUTA students staged a protest over a sharp increase in tuition fees. According to the Student Union Government (SUG), the university management had raised the fees to over N200,000 for new students and N130,000 for returning students—an enormous jump from the previous rate of N35,000. The demonstration played a crucial role in the university’s decision to delay the start of the academic session.

Revised Fee Structure and Payment Guidelines

In response to students’ concerns, the management has updated the fee structure to provide a more affordable payment plan. The revised fees are as follows:

• 100 Level Students: N159,000
• 200 Level Students: N73,000
• 300 Level Students: N78,500
• 400 Level Students: N68,000
• 500 Level Students: N73,000

Payment Options and Conditions

To reduce the financial burden on students, FUTA has introduced a flexible installment payment option for students in 200 to 500 levels. The details are as follows:

1. Installment Payments: Students in 200 to 500 levels can pay their fees in two equal installments. However, first-year students and 200-level Direct Entry (DE) students are required to pay the full fee upfront at the beginning of the academic session.
2. Course Registration and Accommodation: Students choosing the installment option must pay 50% of their fees before registering for the first semester. The remaining 50% must be paid prior to second-semester registration. Only students who have paid their fees in full will be eligible to apply for accommodation and complete course registration.
3. Accommodation Fees: These must be paid in full; installment payments are not permitted for accommodation.
4. Credit Allocation: Upon payment of the first 50%, half of each fee category will be credited to the student’s account. The remaining balance will be recorded as outstanding and must be cleared before proceeding with further registration.
5. Strict Compliance: The university emphasizes that no student will be allowed to proceed with course registration without full payment of the applicable fees for that semester.
